Details: An opening orchestral overture/fanfare to open the Kennedy Center Concert
The competition is open to any alumnus or currently enrolled student of the music school. Composers who are alumni or current students of the music school are invited to submit an orchestral work of six to 10 minutes in duration.
Current full-time, part-time, and clinical faculty at The Catholic University of America, as well as University staff, are not eligible to apply. A jury will select one winning score and the composer will receive a prize of $1,000. There is no application fee. The winning piece will be performed by the CUA Symphony Orchestra as the opening selection on the 50th Anniversary Kennedy Center concert. As such, the piece should be considered an orchestral overture/fanfare, and should be scored for the following maximum instrumentation:

2(*II pc) 2(*II EH) 2(*II bcl) 2(*II cbn) - 4-3-3-1 - timp - 2 perc (list of available instruments given below) - hp - pno - strings
