Details: St John’s Smith Square is looking for unperformed works for piano or piano duo, of up to fifteen minutes in length to be workshopped as part of a three-day new-music festival this summer.

Curated by award-winning pianist and composer Rolf Hind, the Occupy the Pianos festival will explore a rich and varied selection of music for piano(s), percussion and electronics. Over its nine concerts the three-day festival will showcase an eclectic mix of recent work alongside twentieth-century classics by Messiaen, Stockhausen, Stravinsky and Bartók. Two ground-breaking works from earlier in the solo piano repertoire, Ives’ Concord Sonata and Beethoven’s Hammerklavier, will also feature. Other highlights include a new work for piano and assistant by Hind entitled ‘Thus Have I Heard’, Crumb’s Music for a Summer Evening, the UK premiere of Rúaidhrí Mannion’s Occupy the Pianos and a concert of music for two pianos tuned a quarter-tone apart.

Selected works will be workshopped on the afternoon of 1 June. Full details of the festival programme will be released in late March
