IAWM CALLS FOR ENSEMBLE SCORES—EXISTING AND TO BE WRITTEN FOR ENSEMBLE MISE-EN

Feb. 15, 2013 is the receipt deadline for two competitions whose winners will have their scores performed at the 2013 Annual Concert of the International Alliance for Women in Music (IAWM).

The concert will take place in October of 2013 in New York City. The New York-based ensemble mise-en (www.mise-en.org) will perform the concert. The precise date will be announced later.

For the first competition, for an existing score, the composer must be a current member of the IAWM, the composer may submit only one (1) entry, the duration of a submitted work should be no longer than 15 minutes, and works should be for one or more players (up to seven instruments) from the following: one flute, one oboe, one clarinet, one bassoon, one horn, one trumpet, one trombone, one percussion, one piano, two violins, one viola, one violoncello and one contrabass. Works with electronics are welcome.

All performance materials must be immediately available when the composer is notified of acceptance. If selected, composers must attend the dress rehearsal and performance. Funds for travel and rental fees are not available.

The second competition is the 2013 ensemble mise-en/IAWM New Work Project. The winner will have an opportunity to work with ensemble mise-en (www.mise-en.org) to write a new work for chamber orchestra/large ensemble (up to 14 musicians).

The composer selected must make the score and parts available by Aug. 25 and attend the dress rehearsal and performance. Funds for travel and rental fees are not available.

To be eligible for the ensemble mise-en/IAWM New Work Project, composers must be current IAWM members. A composer may submit a maximum of four representative works (one chamber orchestra/large ensemble piece required), with a brief description of the proposed composition for ensemble mise-en.

To enter, submit scores with recordings (if available) to EasyChair at https://www.easychair.org/conferences/?conf=iawmac2013. Please use a pseudonym on scores to preserve anonymity in the judging process. The actual name of the composer (author) submitted in the registration process will be shielded from the judges. Please choose a category for your entry: General Call or New Work Project.

The deadline for receipt of materials is Feb. 15, 2013. Decisions will be announced by Mar. 15, 2013.
