The Domenic J. Pellicciotti Opera Composition Prize was founded by Dr. Gary C. Jaquay to honor his life partner Domenic J. Pellicciotti, an ardent fan of opera. The award seeks to encourage and acknowledge the creation of new operatic works that explore, within a broad range of possible expressions and representations, themes related to tolerance, inclusion and/or the celebration of diversity within an inclusive community. $20,000 in Total Prize Money* Composers/Librettists are invited to submit recently composed operatic works suitable for performance by college-level singers and instrumentalists. Portions of a larger work or a one-act opera of approximately 20 – 45 minutes are welcome. Submissions should reflect the intentions of the prize stated above that reflect in some way, issues of tolerance, inclusion, and/or the celebration of diversity. Works which explore issues relevant to the LGBT community are particularly encouraged. Eligibility Submissions of recently composed, original operas which have not received a professional premiere, from composer/librettists of any age or nationality, not affiliated with SUNY Potsdam, are welcome. Deadline for Submission: March 29, 2013 Criteria and Additional Information The Crane School of Music at SUNY Potsdam Domenic J. Pellicciotti Opera Composition Prize submissions will be reviewed by a committee consisting of Crane School of Music faculty as well as an invited opera professional. A selection of two or three works (either in part or whole) will be performed by the Crane Opera Ensemble and Orchestra in November of 2014. *The $20,000 prize will be divided among the winning submissions at the discretion of the committee. |
