Details: Boston Metro Opera is now accepting scores of new art songs/cycles, music theater works, and operas for the 2013 International Composers' Competition. Works selected will receive a full concert performance, as part of the 4th Annual Boston Contempo Festival (formerly The Contemporary AmericanaFestival). 2.) Applicants may enter an unlimited number of compositions per category. A panel of opera professionals and new music specialists will review these submissions and make repertory decisions for each division. Repertory decisions will be announced via e-mail and posted on this site no later than November 25 (for operatic/music theater works) and December 10 (for art songs/cycles).
3.) Operatic works have no length requirements or restraints and may contain up to ten roles (not including chorus). Select operas may also be considered for the BMO Mainstage Award (fully-staged performances in 2013-2014), the BMO Concert Award (full concert performances in 2013-2014) and/or the Director's Choice Award (fully-staged performances with orchestra in 2013-2014/ 2014-2015). Works selected for one of these Special Awards will be programmed during Boston Metro Opera's regular season, not at the festival.
4.) Music Theater Works have no length requirements or restraints and may contain up to ten roles (not including chorus). Music Theater Works must be scored with piano but may include two additional instruments. Winners will receive a performance at the Festival in May. Select Music Theater Works may also be considered for the BMO Mainstage Award (fully-staged performance in 2013-2014).
