Jorge Vidales (1969)
Born in Mexico City. He studied at the Escuela Nacional de Música, in México´s National Autonomous University (UNAM), where he graduated with honors. His principal teachers were Federico Ibarra (composition), Aurelio León (piano), Mario Lavista (composition) and Gabriela Ortíz (composition).
In 2000 he was the recipient of the Young Creators Grant, awarded by the National Endowment for Arts and Culture (FONCA).
From 1999 to 2001 he was faculty member at the Escuela de Música Vida y Movimiento, Ollin Yoliztli, and from 2001 to 2005 he was faculty member and head of the Music Theory Department, at the Escuela Superior de Música, of the National Institute of Fine Arts (INBA).
His works have been premiered in Mexico´s most prestigious venues and festivals, including the “Manuel Enríquez” International New Music Forum, the University Music Composition Festival, the University Arts and Humanities Festival, Mexico City´s International Festival, and the University Piano Marathons.
He has received commissions from some of Mexico´s leading performers, and his works have been performed abroad in Italy, the U.S. and Latin America.
He has done extensive work in the field of musical theatre as a pianist, conductor, arranger and composer. He is also a regular contributor to Pauta, Mexico´s leading music theory and music criticism publication, where he has published articles on music theory and esthetics.
His catalog includes works for solo instruments, chamber music, vocal and choral works, and orchestral music.

Nacido en la Ciudad de México. Estudió en la Escuela Nacional de Música, de la Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM), donde se graduó con mención honorífica. Sus principales maestros fueron Federico Ibarra (composición), Aurelio León (piano), Mario Lavista (composición) y Gabriela Ortíz (composición).
En el 2000 recibió la Beca Jóvenes Creadores, otorgada por el Fondo Nacional para la Cultura y las Artes (FONCA).
De 1999 a 2001 fue miembro de la facultad de la Escuela de Música Vida y Movimiento, Ollin Yoliztli, y de 2001 a 2005 fue miembro de la facultad, y coordinador del área de Armonía de la Escuela Superior de Música, del Instituto Nacional de Bellas Artes (INBA).
Sus obras se han presentado en las salas de conciertos y festivales más prestigiosos de México, incluyendo el Foro Internacional de Música Nueva "Manuel Enríquez", el Festival Universitario de Composición, el Festival Universitario de las Humanidades y las Artes, el Festival Internacional de la Ciudad de México y las Jornadas Pianísticas en la Sala Nezahualcoyotl del Centro Cultural Universitario.
Ha recibido encargos de algunos de los intérpretes más destacados de México, y sus obras se han presentado también en Italia, Estados Unidos y Latinoamérica.
Ha realizado también un trabajo muy extenso en el campo del teatro musical como pianista, director, arreglista y compositor. Contribuye regularmente a la revista Pauta, la publicación principal sobre teoría y crítica musical en México, donde ha publicado artículos sobre teoría musical y estética.
Su catálogo incluye obras para instrumentos solistas, música de cámara, música vocal, música coral y música para orquesta.
