Five Part to Four Part Writing  StephenJMacko at 19:06 on 09 July 2010

Tetra Chord Structuring is a style of music that allows composers of music to use all of the basic musical theories used for the composition of music, while allowing concepts of 12-tone composition rules as a resource. In tonal music, key signatures allow performers and composers to set positions and fingerings as guidelines for performing a given composition. 12-tone music, however, uses no key signature, allowing the composer to use accidentals for spelling chords and leading melodies to guide performers to the most reasonable position or fingering for a passage of notes. When tonal music and 12-tone music are combined together, melodies are written with chords for positions and fingerings on instruments as 12-tone music is the determiner of each composition, making each a work not using key signatures and, in many instances, requiring no rests, because the music is not only including four voices, tonal music, but, in the sense of voicing; five part writing is the finished product of tonal and 12-tone music when combined.

Since key signatures are important for performers and composers, after adding 12-tone to tonal music, the composer has the option to add more tonality; by using basic music theory to make key signatures and rules of four part writing. Thus, the composer uses a product of five part writing, then adds basic music theory and key signatures to make a form of four part writing; giving the composer the resource of 12-tone tonal music to make new chord spellings with key signatures and proof of note correctness, because of a four part composition written from a preliminary five part study or product.

The spelling of new chords allows composers to write with proofs for chord spelling, by using Tetra Chord Sets. Using Tetra Chord Sets to prove the correctness of notes for a four part composition, allows performers and composers proof for musical compositions, of which, are based on true musical proofs, instead of a music that only allowed theory for the use of key signatures and accidentals for melody and harmony.

By using proof of musical notes proven before being included in the composition of five part 12-tone tonality, I would propose that Tetra Chord Structuring solves a problem of theory compared to proof for performers and composers.

Instead of musical theory, this basis of proof would, once again, be the basis for proofs for church music or sacred music as compared to secular music. Sacred for God, and once again proving how entertainment, using secular music, caused theory to evolve, because of non-written music and improvisation. With Tetra Chord Structuring and other styles of written music i.e. aggregate, serialism, and third-stream, every melody and part is proven as written and allows performers and composers key signatures for positions and fingerings with proofs of correctness for sacred music for the church.

I am new in the field and I am not even sure if I really have the talent or gift. My area is landscaping but I also have inclination in music. Thank you for sharing this information. It helps newbies like me.

snohomish,

Your welcome! I wanted to respond with a few notes on how to save time in the beginning stages of composition, as you are a new composer. First, try to avoid writing dissonance (minor seconds repeatedly). After writing with the beginning stages of Tetra Chord Structuring, also try to place the consonances on the strong beats, even if this means changing the meter of the music (from four-four to three-four back to four-four).

Another good idea is to listen to music. If you like jazz, listen to jazz and then write. Then after referring to Tetra Chord Structuring, try to use basic music theory and just write music without Tetra Chord Structuring. For, I feel it is very important to remember where the basis of music comes from (thousands of years of the history of music).

I hope this helps you, but always remember, keep all of your work in order, see it mature, and learn the instruments you write for as you write for them.
