and answer or my questions
1) There i some of you likes , enjoys, rates bearable this "stuff"?
2) If the Modern Guys play some wrong notes who could tell? Poppe not for shure (I have met him by chance)
3) DO you think this is doing good or harming the "cause"of contemporary classical music today
It happens by any chance that I am quite a "hard core ""contemporary composer" myself but pleas egive me a break!

I have not listened to the piece all the way through. the style is the usual, but I found the sounds attractive and it has a certain almost [but not quite] honest purity or simplicity about it. I will listen to some more

Sorry only got around to listening to it now.
I don’t know how you were expecting people to react to it, but I liked it. The only thing that really caught me off guard was the way the piece started, but that only made me like it more.
I feel reluctant to answer your questions for numerous reasons but here goes:
1) Yes
2) No, but what is a note? What is the most important aspect of a note? The exact pitch, exact rhythm, the expression etc. I don’t think this ensemble would have played too many wrong notes (if any) and even when musicians of this calibre play “wrong notes” it isn’t completely wrong. It might be the wrong pitch but the rhythm and expression might be correct so is it such a disaster?
3) No
Am I to assume that you didn't like the piece?

Actually, not commenting is worse than commenting.
Of course it is doing contemporary music good! Any piece that is well crafted, original and sincere in its approach and execution (which this piece is) furthers and develops contemporary music. It is when composers are too self-conscious and are not sincere in their actions they begin to damage ‘the scene’.

For me it is, and as far as it happens I know and have worked with many musicians of this calibre, let me tell you that if they miss the shot is because they do not care and if they do not care there is something inside the music that makes them to do so...for Mr Poppe Music is an object to look at from outside without any kind of passion and devotion. This is why he treats it like an object and lets it be damaged by himself using it! There is a strange attitude going on in the Continental hard side of the EU made up of perfect writing technique with no attention to what the real out come really is. Once Bernard Lang , a guy who is out of the box from the beginning confessed to me that when he was testing many composers for a masterclass, most of them could not recognize an f sharp major chords from a diminished one...I can bet , and I know him because he dares to conduct as well , like many of his stature, that he cannot tell if many of the notes they were playing were right or wrong .. just to end I think I disagree with your statement: a pitch is pitch but a note is pitch plus something ... if you take away the pitch than you do not have the same note anymore or do you like writing functions with no numbers and let kids play with them? tons of music like this with the same outcome , one premiere than forgotten and audience clapping just for the sake of it and performers laughing at how the composer are lost now a day !

Yes, there is no denying that if the pitch is changed then it is a different 'note'. I wasn’t answering the question in relation to my compositional philosophy, but rather in relation to your question and, therefore, from a listeners view.

i.e. when a musician of this calibre plays a wrong note he/she usually does not communicate this mistake to the listener so it probably won’t be perceived so is it such a disaster?
