Years ago I tried to use visual meters to train an ensemble in baroque tunings but was told by the person in charge who is now professor and head of department that real musicians do not do this sort of thing, they do it in (unspecified) different ways.

The meters were showing that the pitches were miles out of where they were intended to be.
