Erick Flores - Biography  
 


Erick Flores’ works have been performed in venues such as the Queen Elizabeth Hall, Cadogan Hall, Britten Theatre and Amaryllis Fleming Hall in London, Yamaha Hall in New York, as well as at the Polack Hall and Tanna Schulich Hall in Montreal and at music festivals such as the Aldeburgh Music Festival and Soundwaves Festival. Earlier this year, with the supervision of composer Julian Anderson, Flores was part of the Young Composer Scheme of the London Philharmonic Orchestra, which resulted with the commissioning and premiere of his work Foliage under the baton of Clement Power.

Flores’ works Chamber Concerto and Sonorités Naturelles were premiered by the New Perspectives Ensemble in 2008 and 2009. His oeuvre also includes a Piano Concerto: La couleur de l’espace, and wide range of piano and chamber works, including a series of works for chamber ensembles and electronics. In 2008, Flores attended the Britten-Pears Young Artists Programme resulting with the premiere of his most performed work L’ intérieur bleu [for piano and electronics] by pianist Sarah Nicolls with Sound Intermedia creating the electronics and under the supervision of composer Jonathan Harvey.

His works have been recognized at various competitions obtaining an Honorary Mention at the Jean Coulthard Composing Competition, a bursary from the Leverhulme Trust, the Director’s Award and the Composition Competition at the RCM, the Adrian Cruft Prize, and financial support by the Canada Council for the Arts. Flores studied at McGill University under the supervision of Christopher P. Harman (composition) and Mme. Marina Mdivani (piano). After obtaining a Masters, Flores has stayed at the Royal College of Music to pursuit his Doctorate in Advanced Composition under the supervision of Kenneth Hesketh.
